Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Remembering the exact canonical tag is error-prone. I often tag with DnD, but later search for Dungeons & Dragons. Without aliases, I miss results or create duplicates.
Describe the solution you’d like
Support aliases (synonyms) for a canonical tag.
-
Define multiple alias strings per tag (e.g.,
DnD,D&D,Dungeons & Dragons). -
Searching or filtering by any alias resolves to the canonical tag’s items.
-
Option to auto-merge duplicates into the canonical tag.
-
UI to add/remove aliases in the tag manager; export/import with tags.
Describe alternatives you’ve considered
-
Manually adding multiple similar tags to each item (causes tag bloat, especially in “tag-in-filename” mode).
-
Relying on saved searches in a text file (doesn’t prevent duplicate tagging, very cumbersome).
Additional context
Aliases also cover spelling variants, acronyms, plurals, diacritics, and localized names. Ideal behavior: aliases affect search and filters, but do not change the stored filename tag unless explicitly merged.
